Spider Diagrams...

Note, I asked two people in addition to my own thoughts, marked in red and green.

 The easiest word for me to expand on was CHILDHOOD, lots of words came to mind. I guess it is a subject I am very familiar, both in my own memories and being a parent now. 

 ANGRY was the most challenging, however I didn't force it, I just sat and allowed my brain to naturally navigate its way through the word. 

 I didn't apply any tactics as such, I was intrigued to know what my mind would conjure up when allowed the time to do so. Interestingly, when I put to friends on the spot, it's amazing how quickly your thought process can halt, brainstorming with a pen, paper and a little time is like a key opening a box of ideas!

REFLECTION: This was a brilliant exercise, I really enjoyed the natural process my brain followed in finding words. One word branched out into another, very effective and a tool I will now use every time I'm searching for ideas. Learning and growing is making me feel so happy!

Using black and White... Chosen word SEA: When I think of the sea, I think of an ocean full of life so I wanted to select something that represented where my brain was when I thought to of this word. I settled on 'Jellyfish'. I took a look at some wildlife photography for inspiration, and took the lines and position of this Jellyfish as my guide:  My line drawing: The brief asks that the image 'into' A3. Due to needing to print, scan and copy my image through my printer, this drawing is in A4, which fits within the A3 boundary.  My drawing using the invert function:  My collage: I did this over 2 days, ensuring there was time for me to step back and keep looking at the image. Identifying tools and materials  My personal style of artwork is pen and ink drawing. As I am most comfortable with this medium, for this exercise I want to take myself out of my comfort zone and select oil paint illustrators. I found using oil paints a challenge in previous exercises, however I have been looking for an opportunity to use them once again, so here it goes.  Oil paint Illustrators Will Terry Children's book illustrator, titles  include: Bonaparte falls apart, The Three Little Gators, Skeleton for Dinner, The Three Bully Goats .  Will Terry often starts  his artwork using oil paints and finishes digitally, Photoshop.  "One of the problems with painting in traditional mediums - like oils for instance is the lack of control or the tedious nature of finishing details - not to mention the fact that you can't undo, adjust colour, or zoom in".   The use of colour in these two illustrations is exquisite. A subjective drawing.... From the previous list I selected 'Umbrella' .  From my brainstorm, I have selected the word ' accessory' . Having a collection of umbrellas myself, I do see my umbrella as an accessory to my day (when needed).  I wanted floral tones, 'rainy' blues colour tones. I almost wanted to incorporate the umbrella into a wallpaper design. I searched through home magazines for ideas.  My moodboard... Picking out all things 'accessory', and with my home wallpaper in mind. Framing my moodboard with the rainy blue toned wallpaper really worked to inspire me.  My initial line drawing... An open umbrella.  My chosen paper for my umbrella is a thick, quality floral wallpaper, similar to the boarder in my moodboard, it's pretty, like fabric.
