An objective drawing
Chosen item - A pair of glasses...
My reading glasses, placed on a white sheet as advised.
I started by roughly sketching out the glasses. Measuring the elements in cm for scale accuracy, really looking at each section. Also placing the glasses in different positions for observation.
The glasses are for sight, they are transparent in parts, tortoiseshell in pattern, they are plastic so shiny across the frame. They reflect light and leave shadows. They are round. The frames are slender. The bridge is steep. The colour, two tones of brown. There are imperfections, the glasses are not perfect in their symmetry... I guess being a cheaper range of spectacle!
I used a 2B, 6B and HB pencil for this drawing to help highlight the lighter and darker colours. I used a textured watercolour paper to help express the tortoiseshell pattern of the frames. As I used the 2B and 6B, they naturally went onto the paper in a speckled fashion.
As I was working on a white sheet, I included the shadows by blending the pencil.
REFLECTION: I have learnt to look, really look and look again. To pay attention to detail, to scale and notice the imperfections...
